Even though there are dozens of pellet grill brands on the market, I'm sure you’ll agree with me that nothing quite compares to a Traeger! Mine was given to me as a surprise birthday gift over a year ago. I absolutely love it! What I really love about it is that it allows me to experiment with different cooking methods (grilling, smoking, braising, roasting, baking, etc.) and of course, different pellets. When I got started, one question I had was can you use any kind of pellets in a Traeger grill? Or do you need to stick to wood pellets made by Traeger? I was worried that A) the pellets might not burn correctly, B) the pellets might damage my grill, and C) the warranty would become void if I used any other brand of pellets than Traeger. Here's what I learned: You can use any brand of wood pellets in a Traeger grill, as long as they are food-grade wood pellets specifically designed for use in a wood pellet grill. I've had no burn or damage issues using pellets from brands such as Bear Mountain, Weber, or Camp Chef in my Traeger. Moreover, according to Traeger, you can burn any brand of grill pellets in your Traeger grill without fear of voiding the warranty. Can You Use Third-Party Pellets In A Traeger Grill? From personal experience, and based on what others are saying on the net, it's perfectly fine to use pellets manufactured by other wood pellet grill brands in your Traeger grill. However, make sure that the pellets are "food-grade" pellets, specifically designed to cook food. Can You Use Pit Boss Wood Pellets In A Traeger Grill? You can use Pit Boss wood pellets in your Traeger pellet grill. They should move through your hopper and augur tube without any issues. The pellets should ignite and burn just like Traeger pellets would. And, as stated on Traeger's website, using Pit Boss grill pellets should not void your warranty. Can You Use Smokehouse Wood Pellets In A Traeger Grill? You can use Smokehouse wood pellets in your Traeger pellet grill. They should move through your hopper and augur tube without any issues. The pellets should ignite and burn just like Traeger pellets would. And, as stated on Traeger's website, using Smokehouse grill pellets should not void your warranty. Can You Use Oklahoma Joe's Wood Pellets In A Traeger Grill? You can use Oklahoma Joe's wood pellets in your Traeger pellet grill. And, as stated on Traeger's website, using Oklahoma Joe's grill pellets should not void your warranty. Will It Void The Warranty If I Use Third-Party Pellets In A Traeger Grill? According to Traeger's website, using food-grade grill pellets from other brands will not void the warranty. Here's precisely what it says: "You are free to use any brand food-quality grill pellets with your Traeger without fear of voiding its warranty. Home heating pellets have adjuncts, binders/glues, biomass, and softwood that will create performance and reliability problems that are not covered by warranty." Can You Use Heating Pellets In A Traeger Grill? As a rule of thumb, you should not use heating pellets in a Traeger grill - or any other pellet grill. Indeed, most heating pellets are not "food-grade" pellets. They may contain toxic substances which could contaminate your food. Only use "food-grade" pellets made from 100% hardwood in your Traeger grill. Using heating pellets in a Traeger grill will void the warranty. Can You Use Other Types Of Fuel In Your Traeger Grill? If you're wondering if it's OK to use other types of fuel in your Traeger grill, the general answer is NO. The only other type of fuel you might consider using, in addition to wood pellets, is at the end of this list. Can You Use Logs In A Pellet Grill? You should not use logs in a Traeger grill under any circumstances. Logs are extremely likely to damage your grill, are unlikely to burn properly, and will void your warranty. Only use food-grade, 100% hardwood pellets in your Traeger. Can You Use Firestarter In A Pellet Grill? You should not use a firestarter in a Traeger grill under any circumstances. It is extremely likely to damage your grill, may cause an uncontrolled fire (grill fire, backburn, or both), and will void your warranty. Only use food-grade, 100% hardwood pellets in your Traeger. Can You Use Wood Chips In A Pellet Grill? You can add wood chips to your Traeger grill by following the recommended instructions. Don't place the wood chips in the augur, but instead place them in or next to the firepot, or in a smoker tube on the grill grates.
